What does “patentable category features” mean?

Patents can only protect technology — like software, electronics, mechanical devices, medicine, chemicals, proteins, and so forth.

In order to make sure your idea is patentable, it has to fit into one of the patentable categories. The features describe the aspects of your idea that defines the category where your patent falls into.
